Steven Assanti is now living in the back of his dad's SUV.
The father of a morbidly obese American man fears his son's life is in danger after he was kicked out of a hospital diet programme for ordering a pizza.
Steven Assanti, who weighs 360kg, was enrolled in a weight loss programme at Rhode Island Hospital for 80 days to get help for his food addiction. He said he has lost more than 9kg during that time.
But last week the 30-year-old ordered a pizza, a violation of the plan's rules, and was booted out from the programme. He was currently living in his father's car.
Steven Veillette says he doesn't know how to help his son.
He said the decision to order pizza was a way of rewarding himself for his recent weight loss.
"It's an addiction and I realise that. And it's a disease," Assanti told NBC.
His father Steven Veillette said his son needs professional help.
"If he comes home and I do get him up the stairs somehow, some way he's going to go right back to his eating habits," Veillette told the Washington Post.
"I just can't afford to dish out $500 a week for a hotel. It's impossible."
